How to optimize content for Search Engines?

After writing about SEO introduction and keyword research blog posts, I am going to tell you how to optimize your content for search engines.

First thing you should know is why content optimization is required?

If you are online for awhile, you must know that how much competition is there on the World Wide Web. Millions of blogs and news portals are already there and thousands are being started everyday which results in raising the competition level to a greater extent. So to stand out from others and to get maximum traffic from Google and other search engines, there is need to do something better which most of those sites are not doing.

Many things you can do in order to make your blog more user and search engine friendly. Content optimization is one of the strategies which required to getting maximum traffic and engagement specifically from search engines.

There are certain things which you should consider to optimize your content:

Keyword research: The very first thing you need to do is to do keyword research because you can get a list of good keywords first which you can target while optimizing the content. I have shared a detailed guide to keyword research few days back which you can ready by clicking here.

Writing the Page Title: Almost every web page or blog post has a title which needs to be written in SEO friendly manner to get benefits. Keep the page title as Heading 1 [<h1>]. Keep it short and catchy. Include one of your targeted keyword within the title.

Now comes the main part i.e. content which you have to optimize in a manner that it complies with modern SEO strategies.

Always write for people: Though we are discussing about how to optimize content for search engines; I would advise, while writing always think that you are writing for people not for search engines. When you write for people, your content looks more natural which Google loves.

Make use of Headings and Subheadings: Writing essay type content doesn?t attract readers thus no traffic, no engagement which results into a dead website/blog.

Therefore, adorn your content by using headings and subheadings properly. It makes the content more readable. In fact, nowadays people don?t read the content but they just scan through to get idea about what it is. So it?s important to give maximum info just by your page title, headings and subheadings.

Make use of Bold, underline and italic: While creating content you write few important points, words or phrases which are considered to be main points, right? Make them either bold, underline or italic to make them look prominent in the content.

Introduction and conclusion must be killer:

Introduction and conclusion of any content are the most important part. Your intro should be well enough to make the readers stay on the page and make them read the whole content. And conclusion must be well enough to satisfy the readers as they would feel that the time spent reading the content was worth.

Write Descriptive Content: There is no word limit for content but still search engines love descriptive content thus I would advise you to write everything in detail. Don?t make the content lengthy just for the sake of increasing word count.

Write those things only which are important and add value to the content. Around 1000 words content is more than enough.

Now you have an idea about the things you should write to make your content better. Let?s now discuss the most important part of optimization which I call Keyword Distribution and placement.

How to distribute and place keywords in your content in order to optimize it well for search engines?

I have mentioned almost all the things which you should to make your content better from people?s perspective, now you will know about making it search engine friendly.

When you write content for people, you are naturally giving some good reasons to search engines to give your content more preference but this is not enough. You have to include the important keywords in the content so that it can rank well in Google to get good amount of organic traffic.

Keyword distribution and placement

Page Title: I have discussed this already that when you write page title, ensure you have your targeted keyword in it and most preferably try to keep it in the beginning of the title.

Meta Title and Description: These don?t show on the page but are important for search engines. Write a good Meta title (page title can be similar to it) and a better Meta description. Put your targeted keyword 1 time in the title and 2 times in the description.

Recommended character count for Meta title:? 60 including spaces

Recommended character count for Meta description:? 160 including spaces

Within Content

  • In the content, always try to use your target keyword(s) in the very first paragraph in a manner that they look natural and flow of the content doesn?t get broken.
  • Use the keyword in the headings and sub-headings which you have used in the content as I discussed about it earlier in the post.
  • Put the keyword as Alt text of images you add with the content.
  • Put the keyword in the last paragraph of the content.
  • As I mentioned earlier that make the important words bold, italic or underline, there I meant keywords as the important words. It helps Search engines to understand the main words or phrases of the content.
  • Always keep one thing in mind that keyword placement should not look unnatural. It should look natural and in flow. Other thing is keep the keyword density below 2%.

In this post you have learnt how to optimize content for search engines as well as for humans. Optimization is required because many times in spite of having killer information, your content doesn?t get much attention. Content optimization makes sure to get more attention, engagement and hence more traffic.

I am sure you loved the content. Please spread the word using social sharing buttons. I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic as well.

Sir Keyword Density below 2 and 1% sometimes is hard. My Posts Word count mostly around 300. Because i usually don’t get much info regarding the Article. So i want to know what is the crucial limit less than 1% shown by Yoast or More than 2% as you said above?

    • Hey Ajay,

I said in general to keep keyword density below 2% because the more repetition a keyword get, post looks like written for search engines. The article must look like it is written for readers thus keeping it as natural as you can, is the good thing.

In early days, people used to keep 3-4% keyword density which worked well but in this age of Panda you should not leave any clue to Google that you are forcefully optimizing your content
