Named after one of the most gifted scientists of all time, Nikola Tesla, Tesla Motors Inc. (commonly referred as Tesla) is an American company which designs, manufactures and sells electric cars. In addition to that, it also manufactures and sells advanced power train components which include lithium-ion batteries to various big names in automobile industry including Toyota and Diamler.

Founded in 2003, Tesla gained great public attention when it launched the first ever fully electric sports car named Tesla Roadster, followed by another model named Model S. ?Recently, the company has announced two new models, Model X and 3, which will be available in the market by mid-2015 and 2017 respectively. Owing to the growing demand, Tesla has expanded its business to Canada, Europe, China, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. Currently there are about 10, 000 full time employees hired by the company around the world.

The strategy of the company is to attract buyers by introducing expensive and luxuriant models to the market and then reduce the price with the growing advancement in the technology to attract general clientele.

  • Tesla Roadster

When launched in 2006, Tesla Roadster was first of its kind. The reason for naming it as Tesla is that it uses the AC Motor designed originally by Nikola Tesla. It was the first ever car to use lithium ion cells and first ever mass production car model which traveled beyond 220 miles on a single charge. It can accelerate up to 60 miles/hour in less than 4 seconds. By the 2012, when Tesla stopped taking further orders of this model, it had sold about 2500 units of Tesla Roadster in 31 countries.

  • Model S

This model was announced in 2012 and by the end of 2014, it had won many big awards related to the automotive industry and green energy. According to the company, this model has been the top selling model among all the models. Thousands of units are being sold every year and the demand is always on the rise. Model S can cruise up to 295 miles on a single charge. It can accelerate up to 60 m/h in 3.2 seconds and its top speed is 135 m/h.

  • Future Models

Model X was unveiled in 2013 and its production has been delayed till mid-2015. Model 3 is the latest announcement from the company which focuses on the average customer?s affordability. The features of the Model S will be incorporated into this model, but it will have its own design.
